Computer Forensics: overview
Incident-related electronic data collected on computers and other devices are properly secured. Important data are extracted, and then informed to the client. Our analysts are all experienced in litigation procedures. With enough education and sufficient investigation career at various investigating authorities, they are considered a few selected specialists in this country.
What is Forensics?
It is a series of scientific investigation methods and skills to secure, research, and analyze evidence collected on electro-magnetic media, to be utilized in incident response processes, legal struggles, and litigation, as well as to analyze, collect information, and perform other actions so that alteration and mutilation of electro-magnetic media can be investigated.

Incident response services: reacting against incidents, and to assist legal actions
We live in the world where ICT is used in every corner of the society, and various incidental evidences such as information leakage, internal wrongdoings, and asset embezzlement, can be traceable as electronic data. Once incident occurs, fast and appropriate response becomes crucial. Effective initial response can not only contribute to subsequent analytical work, but can also improve corporate image. Assuming that information leak occurred, the very first thing to do is to grasp situation as fast and accurate as possible, and find out how much of which type of information leaked out.
Once a security incident such as an external attack occurs, cost and budget will not be at the top of your priority list. You won't have time to compare multiple quotes. With such situation in mind, we at Cyber Defense Institute offer a free-of-charge"Cyber Incident Response Support Service" that supports your emergency response, from initial response to triage (prioritizing items based on urgency). Furthermore, your accountability for such incident (i.e., preparing a report to be submitted to various regulatory agencies) and your need to start legal actions are put into consideration. We at Cyber Defense Institute uses forensics, a set of digital data investigative techniques, to properly secure and analyze electronic data, offering one-stop solution from initial response to recovery support.
Computer Forensics: case examples
- Case 1: Information take-out to a home server
- Case 2: Information leakage via file sharing software
- Case 3: Information reselling by an authorized personnel
- Case 4: Virus infection via USB memory
- Case 5: Certifying an overwork condition
- Case 6: Background of why forensics is required (amended Unfair Competition Prevention Law)
- Case 7: Background of why forensics is required (e-Discovery compliance, in order to meet the amended FRCP article 26)
